Photography Camp - Columbia Gorge Teen Camps

Camp Dates: July 7-16, Summer 2012
A+ R A-

Photography Program

At our camp, the emphasis is on fun and photography skills.  Campers and staff will be out in the field most of every day, where they can hone their skills, while getting in touch with the environment.

We think the Columbia Gorge is a photographer’s paradise…rivers, waterfalls, snow-covered mountains, ancient forests and blue skies contribute to a perfect setting for nature photography. Active outdoor sports provide the second major theme of the camp. Our campers will take photographs of their fellow campers shooting whitewater rapids in an inflatable raft; hiking to the top of a waterfall for the shot that few others get. There will be plenty of opportunities for campers to photography windsurfers and kite surfers flying across Hood River, the Mecca of those sports. Since getting to that “right” spot may take some physical effort, campers must be in reasonable condition and capable of hiking up to five miles in a day.

For our returning campers, we have some great locations in mind for this year's shoots. At this point nothing is finalized, so if you have a specific place or thing you'd like to take pictures of let either Jan or Chuck know through our contact form so we can fit it into our schedule. Getting the best shots not only requires being in the right place at the right time, but also bringing along the right equipment. Let us know early what you're interested in so that we can plan ahead. This season we'll also be introducing GoPro Cameras. These cameras strap onto a helmet or body part and capture awesome action shots like climbing, rafting and biking. The cameras are waterproof and extremely durable, so you don't need to worry about damaging your own equipment to get that perfect picture.

Our instructors will spend time with each camper critiquing their photos both individually and in a group. Toward the end of the session, we will assemble a multi-media slide show of their work to take home and share with family and friends.
